Big news. There's a new way of making tofu both taste and flake like fish! Jules, aka The Easy Vegan, has put his thinking cap on and come up with an ingenious method of thinly slicing tofu and using nori sprinkles to create a genuinely fish-like effect.
Don't worry, though, if you'd like to use the simpler method he also shows in the video - we provide nori sheets too so you can choose which technique you'd like to use. Hey, there's a time and a plaice for both...
You don't even need to full-on deep fry - just a centimetre or so of sunflower oil (which we provide with the kit) will suffice.
Oh and it's served with the most amazing oven cooked chips from chunky maris piper potatoes, minty macho peas and a zingy vegan tartare sauce. Any chippy in the land would be proud to serve this. (We think.)
Ingredients we send: tofu (firm), maris piper potatoes, nori sheets, nori sprinkles, chilli flakes, garlic granules, peas, dry parsley, dry mint, vinegar, tomato ketchup, sunflower oil, cocktail sticks.
You'll need from your kitchen: salt, pepper
Allergens: soy, wheat, celery.
Packaged in an environment where we also store and handle cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide/sulphites, lupin and molluscs. Not suitable for people with severe allergies.
NB: as this recipe involves shallow frying, these values, in particular in respect of fat and overall calories, are rough guidelines. Exact values will depend on the amount of oil absorbed by the batter during frying, which in turn depends on batter thickness and exact frying temperature. Needless to say: we don't pretend that this is a diet recipe, but we do think it's a delicious treat!
